Beach Cover-Ups

Beach cover-ups and bathing suit go together like Nutella and peanut butter. Yum. Anyway, the reason why they go together so well, is because if you want to go get ice cream, after you have gone to the beach, but don’t want to change out of your bathing suit, you can just slip on a beach cover-up, and off you go! Alexander McQueen

Alexander McQueen was an British avant-garde fashion designer. He was known for his crazy designs. He was born March 17, 1969, in Lewisham, London. He went to college at Central Saint Martin’s College of Art and Design. He was also the youngest designer to be named the “British Designer of the Year”. He won that four times. In addition, he won the “International Designer of the Year”. He died on February 11, 2010, because of a suicide, because his mother had died days before. As you can tell, McQueen didn’t make clothes that you could actually wear…

“I think there is beauty in everything. What ‘normal’ people perceive as ugly, I can usually see something beautiful in it.”

- Alexander McQueen

London Fashion Week 2012

Fashion Week is an awesome week where lots of designers come and showcase cool new clothes that have just came out. The first French Fashion Week was in 1943, and it was not until 1994 that there was an actual building made specifically for Fashion Week. Fashion Week happens in New York, London, Milan and Paris. The London Fashion Week is going on from February 17-February 22. It features men and women’s wear. Some famous designers that are showing clothes at the London Fashion Week are Stella McCartney, Alexander McQueen, and Burberry. Click on each name and you will go to their websites. Click here for the official London Fashion Week site. Designers will show their spring collections. Here are pictures from years past…

On the Street

In the Sunday Style section in the New York Times, there is something called ‘On the Street’ by Bill Cunningham. It takes up half of a page, and has lots of pictures of what popular fashion Bill has seen on the street. This week, it is floppy wide-brimmed velour or felt hats. In the middle of the page, there is text saying what this trend is. I think this is awesome!

Bill Cunningham

This the one… the only…. BILL CUNNINGHAM! Bill has been writing and photographing ‘On the Street’ since he saw a woman with beautiful blue hair. He decided to photograph anything that he saw was blue on the streets of New York City. He is now famous for taking pictures of everything from hats, to bags, to dresses. This is what ‘On the Street’ looks like.

This 'On the Street' is about oversized handbags.

‘On the Street’ is a good way to spread awesome fashion. I definitely recommend reading it, and trying out the fashions featured.

Toddlers and Tiaras

This show is hilarious, but totally RIDICULOUS! Toddlers and Tiaras is a TV show about toddlers that compete in beauty competition, and they can win either trophies, sashes, crowns, and even cash! The thing that makes this show so funny, is the mothers go all out, and spend around $8,000-$9,000 on one pageant! Most kids start when they are very young, and continue until they are at least nine. Parents get the girls spray tanned, and the children wear fake hair, nails, eyelashes, and sometimes, even fake teeth! The reason why I’m posting this though, is because of the costumes. The dresses are big, bold, and bedazzled!
